Under the leadership of Jason King and Brad Knarr, in partnership with MNRF staff – the past two years of canoe stocking has seen us reach places that the buckets never could have on the Grand River. A strategy that has been working on the Conestogo river for years. The fish were spread through every little riffle, run and tail out on this river from Belwood Lake to the Iron Bridge at Weisenberg Road. Not in buckets of 100 fish but in nets of 5-15 fish per spot. By all reports, anglers were seeing stocked fish much later into the season last year then we had seen in some time.
It is our intention to operate the 2024 stocking with the same approach. If you are interested in volunteering for fish stocking this year, please reach out to us and indicate how many people will be in your party. We will need volunteers in canoes and on foot, so please let us know what you would like to do and on what days. The one drawback of this approach is that it is not a “more the merrier” situation. We need a specific amount of volunteers for these days so once the spots are full, they are full.
We have need for more volunteers on the Conestogo River this year so please spread the word. We promise it is a day to remember!
